Healthy Foods To Reverse Insulin Resistance

By Amanda Brown

All the food we consume is eventually turned into glucose which is used in producing energy for body functions. This glucose cannot find its way into blood cells if the pancreas cannot produce enough insulin. This has seen millions of people exposed to serious life threatening conditions like kidney diseases, blindness, disorders of the nervous system, etc. The good news is that it is possible to reverse insulin resistance.

Diabetics have an opportunity to reverse the condition by selecting the right foods. Processed foods are the greatest enemies of persons with diabetes. It gets worse if the quality of carbohydrate is highly processed. The processed foods include pizzas, fries and others that use sugar based preservatives.

The level of glycemic acid is high for flour based products. These foods rank alongside white rice, cereals, white rice, candy, white potatoes and soda. Specialists recommend the avoidance of sugar and limitation in the amount of alcohol and caffeine consumed. The concentration of natural sugars in some fruits is very high. These fruits include bananas, peaches and nectarines. Avoid such fruits if you are diabetic.

Cruciferous vegetables and the leafy greens are excellent in stabilizing sugar levels in the blood. The concentration of minerals, vitamins, phytochemicals and antioxidants is admirably high. The level of insulin in the blood is affected by magnesium deficiency. The leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables like collard greens, spinach and broccoli contain the right amounts of magnesium. These vegetables help in detoxifying the body and will protect the body from cardiovascular diseases.

Spices and herbs also join the natural compounds that effectively reduce diabetes in the body. Two spices have been identified through research as effective in fighting off diabetes. Cinnamon specifically reduces the level of sugar contained in blood. It also helps in keeping away cardiovascular diseases. Turmeric has been in use for centuries in different communities. It is effective in protecting the liver. The components found in turmeric act as antioxidants beyond providing anti-inflammation properties.

Fruits and vegetables are not only healthy for the body but they reverse diabetes. They come with anti-inflammation and ant-oxidant properties that reduce the adverse effects of diabetes. Some of the excellent fruits to consider are mango leaves, blue berries and Indian goose berries. Some of the benefits offered by goose berries include curbing cardiac related complications, reducing hyperglycemia and promoting proper functioning of the pancreas. Mango leaves are also excellent in checking glucose level.

Besides the joy of chewing on nuts, grains and beans, they are excellent in reducing blood sugar levels. Whole grains are considered the best option as opposed to processed ones. Excellent grains for reducing the effects of diabetes include buckwheat, wild rice, amaranth, barley and oats. Cannellini beans are another health option because their consumption does not raise the levels of blood sugar.

Beyond taking the right foods, it helps to plan your meal. Ensure that you eat every four hours. Avoid eating two to three hours before going to bed. Daily exercises will also help reduce sensitivity to insulin. Consult a professional, experienced and specialized nutritionist. He will help you craft an effective dietary routine that will reduce the effects of diabetes.
